RECENT GARBAGE PAIL KID ART

Lately I've been doing a bunch of Garbage Pail Kid related artwork so I thought I'd post some of it. I really like doing my own versions of some of the old cards and it's really helped to get me out of an artistic slump.

I figured it might be fun just to start with the 15th series cards so the first one I did was #581 (Shel Game/ 3-Card Monte). Here is the original card.

Photobucket

I did the original illustration in felt-tip pen and tried to mix my own style with a little bit of Tom Bunk and Robert Crumb.

Photobucket

Here is the final version after I colored it with photoshop and added the logo and name banner.

Photobucket

The next card is #582 (Take-out Dinah/ Chow Mame).

Photobucket

I did this one with felt-tip also.

Photobucket

For the final colored version I did on Photoshop I decided to add another G.P.K. into the image. On her plate I added (Misfortune Cookie/ Chow Maynard) from card #509 from series 13.

Next I did card #583 (Lyle Tile/ Harry Glyph).

Photobucket

I did the original figure and background in ballpoint pen.

Photobucket

I wanted to change things up for the final Photoshop version so I added some repetition.

Photobucket

Card #584 (Slimy Hymie/ Crawlin' Rollin) was next.

Photobucket

I knew I was going to have fun with the worms. I did this one in felt-tip and decided to do a full figure.

Photobucket

I spent a little more time coloring this one. I wanted to add some of the shading and highlights I didn't really do on the previous cards.

Photobucket

I still did a card version to stay with the program.

Photobucket

I did one of my favorite cards #585 (Picky Nick/ Beulah Ghoul) next.

Photobucket

I decided instead of the skull on the card I would slip in another G.P.K. again and I knew the perfect one right off the bat. Another one of my favorites #328 (Glowing Amber/ Bright Dwight) from the 8th series.

Photobucket

I sketched this one in ballpoint with shading this time.

Photobucket

For the final Photoshop image I was lucky enough to have a great scan of the original card art so I just tweaked the background and cut, pasted, and colored out the part I needed.

Photobucket

I figured while I already had the Glowing Amber version that I'd do a final colr version of that card also.

Photobucket

The next card in the 15th series was #586 (Peter Cheater/ Dean List).

Photobucket

I did the original drawing in felt-tip pen again.

Photobucket

I changed a couple of minor things in the final version and my daughter Sam helped out coloring it. She did a perfect job and was an amazingly fast learner.

Photobucket

#587 (Mala Nutrition/ Cornelia Flake) was a lot of fun.

Photobucket

I was inspired by Tom Bunk again while working on this. I wanted to add some of his gross little details like the zits and band-aid. I did the original drawing in felt-tip again.

Photobucket

For the final colored version I decided to import a tile grid and enlarge the pupils because my wife thought she looked psycho. I agreed with her and fixed them but I did have to remind her that it's not normal to eat cereal out of the toilet.
I also used a Wacky Package image from the 70's for the cereal box.

The next card #588 is (Yo! Gert/ Ice cream Connie).

Photobucket

I thought I would do a version where she was in a bowl instead of a cone. I did the drawing in felt-tip.

Photobucket

I'm not too happy with the way it turned out and will most likely redo it later. Sam and I had fun coloring it though. She made a version where it was mint chocolate-chip, and I made a strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate version we named "Neal Politan".

Photobucket

The next card I did was #589 (Ecch Benedict/ Brain Les).

Photobucket

I just sketched it out with pencil and have yet to do a colored version.

Photobucket

I plan on doing a colored version in the near future.

Another one I'm still working on is the next card #590 (Little Leak Len/ Snot-ball Saul)

Photobucket

So far I just drew the figure in felt-tip. I'm thinking it might be fun to put other baseball related G.P.K.s on the field.

Photobucket

One more piece of Garbage Pail Kids art I wanted to share is a ceramic Cabbage Patch Kid I bought at a thrift store a while back. I purchased it with the intentions of painting it as Leaky Lindsay/ Messie Tessie but I hadn't gotten around to doing it. I finally painted it the other day and even though the hair/clothes still aren't the right color I like it a lot better now.
Here are some pics:
