TOPPS GRUESOME GREETINGS CARDS 1992
Had to blog about this wonderful set of trading cards. I've been meaning to buy a set of these for quite a while and I finally bought a box recently. These are trading-card-sized mini greeting cards that look pleasant enough from the outside and then open to some nasty joke. I had only seen scans online of the outside of the cards before but that was enough to get my interest. When the cards arrived in the mail I finally got a peek at the gags, and the best part the set.
Gruesome Greetings Cards Box
Wrapper Front/Back
There are 44 cards in the set and the first 14 are "Scratch and Stink". I had always thought that the first "Scratch and Stink" cards were created for the newer Garbage Pail Kids series but was surprised to find these were made over a decade before.
Here are scans of each card, first the outside and then the inner joke. Since you can't experience the smell for yourself, I'll do my best to explain the odor.
Card 1a
Card 1b (you scratch the pig butt and it smells like the inside of a new shoe mixed with an old gum wrapper)
Card 2a
Card 2b (scratch the puke and it smells like taco seasoning and melted rubber)
Card 3a
Card 3b (scratch the dead dog and cat and it smells like lime candy?)
Card 4a
Card 4b (scratch Dad's gross foot it smells like stale moldy bread)
Card 5a
Card 5b (scratch the flattened dog, a really faint grass/outdoorsy smell)
Card 6a
Card 6b (scratch the horsemeat and it smells like a dirty sock mixed with gross pond water. This one is the worst so far) love it.
Card 7a
Card 7b (scratch the dead cat it smells like a girl's armpit sweat)
Card 8a
Card 8b (scratch the fart blast smells like a pickled egg)
Card 9a
Card 9b (scratch her rotten tooth it smells like strong garlic)
Card 10a
Card 10b (scratch the liver smells like the residue left on a barbecue grill)
Card 11a
Card 11b (scratch the puke smells like a grape car freshener)
Card 12a
Card 12b (scratch the snot smells like mowed grass?)
Card 13a
Card 13b (scratch the pig butt smells like cinnamon?)
Card 14a
Card 14b (scratch the bad breath smells like a urinal mint)
This concludes the "scratch and stink" portion of the set. I enjoyed it about as much as I enjoy smelling my own farts. Each one tantalizing in it's own special way.

The back of card #13 has all the artists and writers who worked on the series. This is great because some of the art I could clearly see who it was done by, but not all.
