Got this in the mail yesterday.

GARBAGE PAIL KIDS GIANT SERIES

In addition to the regular Garbage Pail sets Topps also produced two series of "giant" cards which were 5"x7" in size. The first series was released in 1986 and identical to the small first series. The second giant series was also released in 1986 but featured new original artwork. The giant series 2 is a little tougher to find and contains 15 cards. I remember seeing these near the grocery store checkouts during the height of G.P.K. craziness. I never took much interest in them back then because they were so large and different from the other cards. I like having these now for the additional artwork as a nice addition to the regular card series. Here are nice scans I made of the entire set.


#1 BAZOOKA JERK AND HIS GARBAGE

This card is an obvious spoof of the old Bazooka Joe wrapper comics and features "ROD WAD/ JOE BLOW" from card #84 of the 3rd series.




#2 BONY JOANIE...THIN LYNN...BONY JOANIE...

This card features "BONY JOANIE/THIN LYNN" from card #29 of the 1st series.




#3 GARBAGE PAIL KIDS RULE

This is the only one I remember seeing of the giant cards when I was a kid. I didn't really like the artwork and I thought it was kind of cheesy. There was a lot of Garbage Pail Kids rip-offs back then like Trash Can Tots ,and Gross-out kids, and generic stuff being sold with horrible artwork and I just kind of figured it was similar to that. The giant cards were sold in a clear package and I suppose this card was just the one I saw in the pack. Even back then I was a little picky about stuff.

Later on in the 15th series they ended up coming out with a card #603 "FOUL BILL" but he looks totally different.

I love the artwork on this one. I wish they included it in the regular series.

This idea was used again in the Garbage Pail Kids new series 2 #10 in 2004 "HOOKED BROOKE/KATE BAIT" and also on the Trash Can Trolls card #36 "LIVE BAIT KATE/HOOK LINE & CINDY".

This is great because it's so true. During this time the schools were coming down hard on us for trading on the playground.

A lot of kids but the only recognizable ones are "GRAFFITI PETEY/NEW WAVE DAVE" once again, and "DEAD TED/JAY DECAY" from 1st series card #5.



There's also a bunch of extra artwork on the Garbage Pail Kids poster series which I've scanned and will post later.

5 HOUR DRAWING IN 2 MINUTES

I drew this illustration in ballpoint pen and scanned it every 3 minutes as I worked on it. It took me 5 hours and 15 minutes to draw it but now you can watch it in 2!! It's kind of neat to see how it progressed.

SHIRLEY MACLAINE & AUTOGRAPH COLLECTING

I started collecting celebrity autographs on August 19th of last year and it's been really neat to see who sends a response and how the whole thing works. I've received well over 100 signed items and photos since then from all kinds of celebrities.

Today I got my second mailing from actress Shirley Maclaine. The first time I got a 5"x7" photo and a letter but for some reason she forgot to sign it. That was over a month ago. I didn't consider that a positive response because there really was no autograph so I just kid of blew it off.



So I was surprised today to find a second mailing. This time I got a 8"x10" autographed photo and a duplicate letter. The photo is just slightly different this time.





I think Shirley Maclaine is neat because she's all about astrology, psychics, hypnosis, and paranormal stuff. Things I've always been fascinated with.
After I got the first letter I considered Emailing her again just to let her know she forgot to sign the photo. I guess one of her psychic friends must have told her because she sent that new one.

Most celebrities won't personalize the photograph probably because they just fill them out by the stack and don't answer personally. I found that some celebrities ask you to support a foundation or donate money to a cause. I tried to get an autograph from Tippi Hedron from "The Birds" but she asks you to donate $25 bucks to save the hippos or something. Michael J. Fox wants you to donate to stem cell research or muscular dystrophy.

Some celebrities send you shitloads of email. I must get at least 20 emails a month from Lisa Lampanelli. Some are travelling or shooting movies so you have to try and contact them where they are currently at. You send a request to a movie set or a show on broadway and hope they get it before it's over.

As a Christmas gift I thought it would be funny to get a bunch of autographed photos of porn stars for my brother so I emailed a bunch and one of the guys who is supposed to be the "oldest porn star still performing" started sending me emails and creeped me out.
I haven't sent out any new requests for autographs recently, I think I'm going to make a top ten type list of ones I really want and I'll post that on another blog.

SLASH AUTOGRAPH

I got an signed photo of Slash from Guns N Roses in the mail today. I haven't gotten a lot of autographs lately so it was nice to find a new one in the mailbox.



It's a 5"x7" photo with some of his crappy artwork on the back.



I'm not a big fan of Slash or Guns N Roses but I did like the song "You Could Be Mine" from Terminator 2 and I used to like the song "November Rain" when I was in High School. I remember that "Use Your Illusion 1 & 2" were the first cds my brother John ever bought and he also had "Appetite For Destruction". I gave the photo to my so Jack who likes to battle Slash on Guitar Hero.
